Testimonial:
"I am very selective in the continuing education I attend. I prefer more intensive offerings on a single subject rather than the larger meetings that often offer multiple random lectures. I attended Sherman’s needle arthroscopy course two years ago for one reason, I wanted to have the capability of making the diagnosis of medial shoulder syndrome more than presumptive in my practice. Since that time we have been able to help numerous athletes return to high levels of performance by properly identifying and treating shoulder pathology. We have two agility border collies in rehab today that post arthroscopy and regenerative medicine therapies.
If you are doing any amount of sports medicine I strongly recommend you consider attending this course! If you are not routinely diagnosing medial shoulder syndrome in your athletes with thoracic limb lameness then you really need to attend this course!"

VOSM Sports Medicine Academy: Micro-Invasive Arthroscopy Workshop
Comprehensive Hands-On Workshop in Needle Arthroscopy
September 16, 2016
VOSM, Annapolis Junction, MD
VOSM is proud to present a comprehensive hands-on workshop in micro-invasive arthroscopy on Friday, September 16, 2016. This one-day course will feature morning lectures, and a full afternoon of hands-on wet lab instruction. This workshop is designed to help you become more comfortable in the diagnosis and treatment of challenging forelimb and hind limb conditions in the canine that require advanced diagnostics with micro-invasive arthroscopy, also commonly known as "needle scope." Experience in standard arthroscopy is not required for the general practitioner and veterinary surgeon alike to be able to utilize micro-invasive arthroscopy in daily practice. Needle arthroscopy is an excellent tool for the diagnosis of forelimb and hind limb conditions, intra-articular injections through the use of a built-in portal, and follow-up on treatment plans with ease of second-look use. Needle arthroscopy can be performed as an out-patient procedure in a treatment room, unlike standard arthroscopy that requires a full operating room.
Sherman O. Canapp, Jr., DVM, MS, CCRT, will lead this exciting workshop. Dr. Canapp holds diplomate status with both the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (small animal) and the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Sherman Canapp serves as the co-owner and chief of staff at Veterinary Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Group, where he sees challenging cases from around the world, primarily treating performance and working dogs.
Lecture Topics:
- The Use of Micro-Invasive Arthroscopy in Forelimb Conditions (Shoulder and Elbow)
- The Use of Micro-Invasive Arthroscopy in Hind Limb Conditions (Stifle)
- Relevant Anatomy for Challenging Forelimb and Hind Limb Conditions
- How to Incorporate Micro-Invasive Arthroscopy into Your Practice
Wet Lab Topics:
- Hands-On Cadaver Workshop of Micro-Invasive Arthroscopy for Canine Forelimb and Hind Limb Conditions

For more information, email academy@vosm.com.
The first and second series of the VOSM Sports Medicine Academy will include lectures on the indications of regenerative medicine (stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma) for forelimb and hindlimb conditions. The third series is dedicated to regenerative medicine, which will include PRP, ACP, and all aspects of stem cells (bone marrow-cultured cells, BMAC, SVF, adipose-derived progenitor cells, and allogeneic). This includes learning indications for the various technologies, understanding which systems are validated for canine use, practicing collection and processing techniques in the on-site regenerative medicine laboratory, and hands-on training in injection techniques (landmark-guided, ultrasound-guided, radiology-guided, etc.) for both intra-articular injections and soft-tissue injections (tendons and ligaments). The regenerative medicine laboratory includes numerous PRP, ACP, and bone marrow and adipose systems, which will be discussed and demonstrated.
Regardless of the technology being used (PRP or stem cells), the ability to accurately diagnose the injury, target the injured tissue or joint for injection, and objectively measure your outcomes is critical. Therefore, sports medicine evaluations, diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound, and objective gait analysis will also be covered in the series (emphasized in Series I and II).
The fall series of the VOSM Sports Medicine Academy will focus on your choice of arthroscopy or diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound. Due to high demand, and our goal to have more hands-on time, these courses will be scheduled at your conveneince in a one-on-one setting. Please email academy@vosm.com for more information on arthroscopy and ultrasound training this fall.
